PLACEHOLDER- PAGE NEEDS UPDATES
Our coaches are truly the heart of our recreational soccer programs at SVYSA. It takes a small army of coaches to run a successful recreational program, and we can't thank you enough for your interest in coaching one of our recreational teams.
We need coaches!!! Please consider stepping up to be a coach this year. It is critical to the success of the league and the overall player experience that players get a lot of playing time and that coaches are not overloaded with too many players. The league would also like to decrease the number of players on the field at each division, but in order to do so, team size must remain low, which means that even more coaches are needed. If you have been an assistant in the past, this is the year for you to step up and take on a team of your own.
There is no requirement to have played soccer or coached soccer or any other sport. The league will provide as little or as much training as needed. There three simple steps to coaching for Sonoma Valley Soccer:
1. Take the 'F' License Course. It is now available on-line here. It is a 2-hour course that can be completed at any time;
2. Complete the Sideline Sports Doc-US Club Soccer (SSD) online course;
3. Complete the appropriate background check for the age group you wish to coach as set forth below. All volunteers registering with US Club Soccer must submit a background screening application every other year – after July 1.
All coaches U14 and under need to complete the background check application through US Club Soccer: Please click here to submit your application. Select "Sonoma Valley YSA" as the club to which you are applying. Submit your application and send the confirmation number to email@example.com. Do it now! All assistant coaches and team managers working with the kids need to submit a background check application as well.
For teams playing in the District Playing League (U16 and Up), which is operated under CalNorth (CYSA), fingerprinting is required for all volunteers involved on the field with the players. Volunteers must first register - click here to do so, and then take the printed Live Scan request with their information on it to a Capital Live Scan store (closest is in Petaluma - call ahead for an appointment).
Our Director of Coaching Paul Mead will host coaching workshops at the beginning of the season. For those looking for a higher-level experience and additional licensing, we may be offering an E course and a Goalkeeper course. If they happen, the E-course and Goalkeeper course may be held in August. Stay tuned for updates to the schedule.

SVYSA is now accepting applications for individuals interested in coaching in the Competitive Soccer Program.
Please also review the Club Coaching Philosophy and Coach Expectations documents, which outline the basic requirements for competitive program coaches. Most of the frequently asked questions about coaching in the Comp program are answered in these documents.
We’ve taken an important step forward in our goal to attract top talent in Northern California – talent that is going to be integral toward developing our directors, coaches, and players throughout our recreational and competitive programs, and are presently bringing in a number of great coaches for our 2016 competitive teams.
If you’re interested in watching your player blossom under the attention of dedicated, experienced professionals, get in touch with us to determine the best course of action by calling the league voice line at 707-939-5001, or send us an email with any of your questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
