Paul Mead Memorial Scholarship and Donations
Paul Mead Memorial Scholarship and Donations
On January 24th, 2023 the Sonoma Valley United Soccer community lost our former Director of Coaching, longtime volunteer and mentor, Paul Mead. Paul was an integral member of our Board of Directors, a former coach and parent, and a supporter of Sonoma Valley United (formerly Sonoma Valley Youth Soccer Association).
Sonoma Valley United will be taking donations in Paul’s name and allocating those funds to three different initiatives that support the youth of Sonoma Valley playing soccer.
- Renaming the Soccer Field at the Field of Dreams: On Tuesday, June 20, 2023, The Field of Dreams Board of Directors unanimously voted in favor of naming the soccer field located on the southeastern part of the Field of Dreams the “Paul Mead Memorial Soccer Field.”
- Scholarships for Recreational Players: The Board of Directors has unanimously voted in favor to allocate scholarships to players in the Recreational program who are in need of financial support. These scholarships are to support players with registration fees. Discounts (partial or full) are allocated with the approval of the Club President and Director of Recreational Programs.
- The Paul Mead Memorial Player of the Year & Coach of the Year: These awards will be presented to Recreational Players and Coaches at the league fundraiser, Oktoberfest, taking place at the Sonoma Plaza on Saturday, October 7, 2023. The Player of the Year (one for each boy and girl) will be given to a player who shows exemplary sportsmanship, helping others, being a good teammate, leader, etc. with a plaque and their names engraved. The Coach of the Year would be a similar award given to a Recreational Coach.
We are committed to honoring Paul in every way that we can and want the legacy he left behind to be remembered for years to come.
